ombre appreciation

a blog dedicated to ombre hair
we also give advice so don't be afraid to ask us!

So I’m ombre-ing my hair tomorrow. my hair is a little longer than my shoulder and its very, VERY black. I’m scared that the kit I’m using will make my tips turn orange. I'm using the L-Oreal Perfect Blonde Creme Highlighting Kit. I have crazy layers. I'm on doing the tips on my longest layer, blending it up to my chin, and then the tips on my second longest layer. I'm really nervous and I hope it turns out good. Is this a good plan or should I drop it? What would you recommend? please help!!

I’ve never worked with a highlighting kit before, but I’ll try to help you as much! First of all make sure the highlighting kit works well with dark hair. In other words, it should include a low volume bleach so it doesn’t fry your hair to bits! Secondly, most store bought kits do end up making hair pretty brassy and orange so I suggest you buy a blue/violet toner.

If you’re super nervous about it, do it strand test first. Just snip a small strand from your hair and apply a little bit of the creme from the kit on the strand. Follow the instructions on the kit and just wait and see what the color comes out like on the strand. It’ll give you a pretty good idea of what it’ll come out like.

Do a lot of research and make sure you know exactly what color you want!! I also recommend checking out videos on youtube of people who have either used the product or people with black ombre’d hair. I’ve found this video to be very useful!
